Carver's signature on the first page is modest and reserved.
I translated almost all of the works of the late Raymond Carver, a task that meant a lot to me, and I'm really glad I was able to complete it.
The first Carver story I translated was the short story "So Much Water So Close to Home," and after translating several of his short story collections, I had the opportunity to visit Carver at his home in Port Olympia, Washington, in 1983 to talk with him.
This book was specially published for members of the Signed Limited First Edition Society and is signed by Carver on the first page. Shortly after I received it from Carver, he passed away after a battle with cancer. He was only 50 years old.
He was a large man, but his signature was very small, humble and reserved, as if he had been forced into a small box.
