REC COFFEE Shibuya East
Experience Fukuoka's craftsmanship while feeling the remnants of a famous store
Fukuoka-based Rec Coffee is run by Yoshikazu Iwase, a former runner-up at the World Barista Championship. The Shibuya East store is his second location in Tokyo, and he took over the space from Kyohei Nishitani, the founder of Coffee Counter Nishiya, with whom he has a close relationship.
The coffee is roasted in Fukuoka. Barista Gota Nemoto recommends Top Lot's Special Limited Selection, and the shop also focuses on beans from Ardent Coffee, run by Ashenafi Aagaw, a renowned Ethiopian coffee producer.
The coffee is mainly light to medium roasted, highlighting the terroir of the producing area and the ingenuity of the refining process, bringing out the strong sweetness and brilliant acidity. There are also blends that are only available at stores in Tokyo.
