Visiting Coffee Session, which opened in March

"Thai coffee has grown rapidly in the past few years. We've seen baristas win international competitions, the number of sophisticated cafes is increasing, and Thai beans are gaining attention..." Moriji, the owner of Coffee Session, a coffee stand specializing in Thai beans that opened in Morishita, Tokyo in March of this year, spoke passionately.

Coffee Session owner Moriji
"I want to tell the story of coffee," says owner Moriji.

The shop also sells beans that the owner personally found on local farms, which are not often available in Japan. As the name Session suggests, the shop's concept is to collaborate with cultures other than coffee, such as music, miscellaneous goods, and sweets, and the interior is filled with information about Thai pop culture.

"The background music in the shop is Thai pop. The band KIKI has been to Japan and is very popular, and the extremely popular local singer-songwriter Zohn Maly is also very cute. You can also buy records of the traditional music of Mor Lam at the specialty store Isaans in Akabane."

The shop's exterior, which is modeled after the food stalls of Yaowarat Road in Bangkok, to the colorful illustrations on the walls and the ladder-shaped shelves, reflects the exciting culture that Moriji encountered in Thailand. The beans they carry change depending on the season, so every time you visit you're sure to encounter new flavors and a new Thai culture that no one in Japan has yet discovered.
