Love songs are for everyone

"When we were young, Japanese music was so full of love songs that it was synonymous with love songs. So when we decided to pursue music, the songs we wrote naturally turned into love songs."

Yu, who appeared in this magazine and was the former guitarist and vocalist of GO!GO!7188, is currently the frontman of the band Chilinuruwowaka, where he also writes lyrics and composes music, and he shared these thoughts with us during the interview.

Even though I'm in my late 30s, these were words I could deeply agree with.

It's true that from an age when we don't know what romance or love are, we've heard many love songs, and even if we don't understand their meaning, we've sometimes been moved by them and sometimes they've deeply touched our hearts.

For example, there is the famous love song "Koinouta" by GO!GO!7188.

"As long as you have the strength to live, I want you to keep making me laugh and singing, always, always."

When I listened to this song as a student, the lyrics brought to mind the faces of my beloved friends, my family, and the celebrities I followed. To me, this song may not have been a "love song," but it was undoubtedly a love song.

Over time, I've learned that love comes in many different forms, that it's okay to live a life without romantic relationships, and that it's okay to question the very existence of "love"...new emotions and values I didn't know existed have gradually accumulated within me.

While creating this special feature, I was once again deeply reminded that music categorized as "love songs" still exists to capture the hearts of all people and to embrace them.

"I think the act of singing, the act of creating music, and the desire to share it with someone is itself a form of love. That's why I think almost all the songs in the world are love songs."

This is a comment made by Kumiko Takahashi, former drummer of Chatmonchy, lyricist and author, who also agreed to be interviewed by this magazine.

Somewhere in this world, there is surely a love song that can become the theme song of your life. Please turn the pages of this magazine to find it.

These are the things that were sleeping deep in the cardboard boxes at my parents' house. I've listened to love songs in many different places, with many different people.
