NHK study abroad

My way of working has changed since August. I've learned new ways of thinking about projects, what to look for in my daily research, how to organize information when making various requests of business partners, and how to draw out stories during interviews. My previous work style has been brushed up in a variety of situations. Why? Because I studied abroad at NHK from June to July. Yes, it was a study abroad experience in the name of reporting.

I went to NHK, Japan's number one comprehensive media company, almost every day. I visited the filming locations of "Document 72 Hours," "Berabou," "The Wakey Show," "Unsolved Cases," "Red and White," and "Asaichi," and learned in detail about the process leading up to the creation of each program. From the philosophy at the core of the programs to casual remarks made in between interviews, everything I learned was the ultimate textbook for creative work.

I would really like to keep all this information to myself, but unfortunately, it was a reporting session and not a study abroad experience, so I will be sharing it all in this book, "How NHK is Made." It's a project that will never happen again. I recommend that anyone involved with television, media, or entertainment, or indeed anyone who loves making things, should have a copy in their home. Please buy it soon.
