What is "Homalomena"?
A medium- to small-sized plant of the Araceae family that is widely distributed in Southeast Asia. A group called "Chamaecladon" has become highly diversified on the Indonesian island of Sumatra, and undescribed species with new characteristics are being discovered one after another. In Japan, hybridization using these species is also being carried out.
Homalomena pexa

This undescribed species was discovered in northern Sumatra. It is a unique Homalomena with wine-red leaves that are densely covered in soft hairs, from the petiole to the spathe. It is easy to grow and will thrive on sphagnum moss alone if repotted regularly.
Homalomena unknown species

An undescribed species discovered in the relatively bright forest floor of Riau Province, Sumatra. It belongs to the Homalomena "Chamaecladon" taxonomic group, and is the only species with leaf patterns to date. Given its native habitat, it appears likely to thrive even in slightly lower humidity.
Homalomena Hasei

The leaves are covered with rough hairs and are endemic to Aceh, Sumatra, Indonesia. They grow on rocks along mountain streams. The photo shows a thin-leafed variety. The species is named after plant explorer Keisuke Hase.
Homalomena unknown species

An undescribed species discovered in a waterfall in Riau, Sumatra. Its leaves are normally rough and shark-skin textured, but occasionally, like this specimen, the leaf surface has lost its texture. Its growth is somewhat quirky and very slow.
Homalomena unknown species Pink Variegata

This Homalomena has beautiful, vibrant pink spots. The continuity of the spots is excellent so far, and it will be interesting to see what kind of results will emerge from crossbreeding using this plant as a parent. Similar plants have been sent to Europe, and we can expect them to be widely distributed in the future.
