A mix of residential areas and downtown areas, with a local feel just 20 minutes from the city center
The reason I first opened my shop in Kichijoji was because there were a lot of bars there. I was 23 at the time, and I would go out drinking almost every day after work. In the 20 years since then, the number of major shops has increased and the town as a whole has become more popular, but there are still many shop owners and local customers who have a strong love for Kichijoji.
There are also family-run restaurants like Maruken Shokudo and Anzeal, so it's a place where anyone can relate to their hometown. I often become friends with people I meet at the restaurants.
Even though it's a compact town, there are still many old places that remain, which is what makes it seem new to young people. It used to be just an ordinary shopping street, so it's great that it has now become a place that attracts all kinds of people.
