Chinese food for one person: a course meal
The production of this feature began with a comment made by our editor-in-chief during a meeting to decide on the feature: "I'm in the mood for Chinese food right now." When I think about it, I've been choosing Chinese food more and more often when meeting people. Whether it's a regular get-together with friends, a more formal gathering, or even just the second stop after a large group gathering. I've certainly been in the mood for Chinese food lately.
Amidst all this, an unexpected pleasure I discovered while researching this time is eating a Chinese course meal by myself. I want to try a variety of Chinese dishes, including dim sum, seafood, meat, fried rice, and noodles, but when ordering à la carte, the portions are so large that I can't eat many. That's where the course meal comes in. When I visited ON the TABLE CHINESE in Shibuya, the staff told me, "Many customers order a course meal by themselves."
The magazine features a section titled "Under 10,000 Yen Course," which brings together restaurants where you can enjoy a course meal for under 10,000 yen per person. Many of the restaurants are OK for single diners, giving you another option for treating yourself after a long day at work.
