For those who love meat buns
The world of high-quality baozi from a popular Chinese restaurant
REI STEAMED BUN's exquisite meat bun (lo bao)
REI in Yoyogi Uehara, Tokyo, has popularized the concept of "Neo-Machi-Chuuka" by fusing traditional, authentic Chinese cuisine based on highly skilled techniques with the familiarity of local Chinese cuisine.
The restaurant's exquisite balance between authentic high-end Chinese cuisine and local Chinese cuisine, such as its specialty "Yodare Chicken 'REI' Style," is made by boiling Shingen chicken at a low temperature until it is plump and silky, and adding a spicy kick with crushed Chinese fried chili pepper snacks. This is the reason for its popularity, which has been selected for a Bib Gourmand award.
This much talked about restaurant finally opened REI STEAMED BUN, a specialty baozi (steamed bun) restaurant, in the summer of 2024. As owner-chef Yasuhiro Takashima says, "There must be more to wrap, unique to a Chinese restaurant," each ingredient is carefully crafted to create a truly delicious dish.
For example, there is the "Shrimp and Coriander Bun," which is made with a chicken and pork base topped with plump shrimp and a mountain of coriander, accented with white pepper; the "Spicy Bun," which is electrifying with the aroma and spiciness of Sichuan peppercorns and chili peppers; and the "Apricot Jin Cream Bun," which is filled with soft cream flavored with apricot kernels, all of which are so blissful that it feels like you are eating a whole meal!
Among them, the "Fujizakura Pork Meat Bun" is a signature flavor made with only the shoulder loin of Yamanashi Prefecture's brand pork "Koshu Fujizakura Pork" and onions. With each bite of the coarsely ground shoulder loin, which retains its texture, the rich flavor and sweet taste of the fat spreads throughout your mouth.
This is a wonderful souvenir that will be enjoyed by people of all ages and genders. In addition, the long-awaited online store has just launched in May. By the way, you can microwave it, but the fluffy texture of the fine dough and the juicy ingredients are best enjoyed by "steaming" it, as the store name suggests. We recommend steaming it in a bamboo steamer to enjoy its original flavor.
