People appear on T-shirts. Koichi Nishizaka, owner of Hakujitsu

It's just a T-shirt, but it's still a T-shirt. Each T-shirt tells an eloquent story of the owner's life. We asked Koichi Nishizaka, owner of Hakujitsu, about his favorite T-shirt.

It may just be an ordinary T-shirt, but it's an important piece of work wear for me.

I bought this T-shirt at a flea market for 300 yen. It should have cost a little more, but since it was a flea market, I got a discount. When I first came to Tokyo, I made an effort to go to places like Shimokitazawa, but I got tired of that, so now I buy T-shirts and clothes while I'm out buying secondhand goods.

I go all over the country to buy goods, but if the suppliers don't remember me, I won't get any business, so I always wear a black T-shirt and black pants. I also do the same when I go to meet the artists we carry in our gallery; most of them live in mountainous areas, so I go to those places dressed in clothes that I don't mind getting covered in mud. If I can't see them on the same level, it's hard to have a good conversation.

However, in the summer, black is too hot, so I change it to a color that doesn't collect light. Well, this story is like canned coffee, it's not that deep. You might think canned coffee is a bit much, but I feel like drinking canned coffee bought from a vending machine together brings me closer to people and creates a story.

Koichi Nishizaka, Owner of "Hakujitsu"
Hakujitsu is located in a Western-style building in Asakusabashi that is nearly 100 years old. The gallery is in a modern building right in front of it. The ice gray T-shirt I bought at a flea market is size 3XL and is made in Haiti.
