A purchasing experience that gave me the foundation for my work
When I was a student about 20 years ago, I was a fan of the work of art director Kaoru Kasai and followed him. He used Tocca Fond's paintings in his advertisements, and I was shocked by the unique clay-like texture. I was really intrigued, so I went to see an exhibition and found that they were for sale, but I think it was around 60,000 or 70,000 yen including the frame.
It was an unusually high price for me at the time, but I made up my mind and bought it. I'm strangely drawn to the slightly eerie aspects of it, and I like the uneasy comfort and strange layout, so you could say that this painting influenced me and shifted my preconceptions. It hits all the right spots for me. The satisfaction of finally owning the first piece I fell in love with is incomparable to anything else.
