Fishing cat
This wildcat is a member of the wildcat family that lives in the waters of Southeast Asia. As its name suggests, it feeds on fish and crustaceans by entering the water. Three baby cats were born at Toba Aquarium last year.

Although it is a mammal, it has characteristics of reptiles and birds, such as laying eggs. At the Numazu Port Deep Sea Aquarium, it is exhibited as a "creature that holds the key to evolution," just like the eye-catching coelacanth.

polar bear
Polar bears are often kept in zoos in Japan, but are sometimes classified as "marine mammals." Yukimaru has lived at Yokohama Hakkeijima Sea Paradise since the park opened in 1993.

Southern Tamandua
DMM Kariyushi Aquarium exhibits not only Okinawan saltwater fish, but also creatures that live in tropical and subtropical regions. These mischievous and cute creatures are popular at the aquarium.

Japanese squirrel
Eight of them are kept at the Sendai Uminomori Aquarium, where they are exhibited alongside koi, snakes, frogs, and other animals in an area that conveys the natural environment of the Hirose River, which flows through the center of Sendai City.

Fennec fox
A species of fox that lives in the deserts of North Africa and the Arabian Peninsula. It was exhibited at Aquamarine Fukushima after the Great East Japan Earthquake as a memorial to friendship with Kuwait. There are currently four of them in captivity.
