The bare minimum you need to climb on your own without cheating
I don't carry overly convenient tools like tents, smartphones, watches, or headlamps. What's important is shoes, a suitcase, and a knife. There was a time when I used a 6-inch hatchet to look cool, but I eventually settled on a lighter kitchen knife and saw that are more efficient.
The blade of the knife doesn't need to be too long. A paring knife is the size of a knife, so you can even butcher a deer. If you want to prepare delicious fish sashimi, a knife with a thinner blade is better than a knife. For saws, I only use Silky brand saws, which are also used by gardeners. I prefer the 270mm Zubat, which has a curve that makes it easy to apply force.
I think it's important for mountain gear to be easy to use, and also reasonably cheap. If you get too picky about it, you won't be able to use it properly, and if you lose it, you'll be constantly thinking about it and having to go back and get it. Life is more important than gear, so I don't want to take that kind of risk in the mountains.
