The wedge that golf master "JP" has spent 20 years developing

In California, where golf is most familiar, both equipment and fashion are constantly evolving. What on earth is happening across the ocean? We visited JP GOLF, which began selling in Japan in 2022.

Designed like a piece of art, with performance that even top professionals will be impressed with, this wedge was created by James Patrick, aka "JP," who has a workshop in San Diego.

It's a well-known story that a big name from the manufacturer Titleist once visited him and set up a studio just for him. After leaving the company, he launched JP Golf, specializing in clubs for short-distance approaches. Sales began in Japan in 2022.

"The most important things about a wedge are quality, performance, and design. They always come in that order. We gather the highest quality materials, design the performance, and then design the head like a work of art," says JP, recommending the JP Premier.

The curved sole, which JP says is the most important element, optimizes contact with the turf. The high bounce at the bottom prevents the club from digging into the ground and makes it easier to slide. It captures the center of gravity and helps maximize impact.

Lightweight titanium and heavy tungsten are combined inside the head to finely adjust the weight and center of gravity of the head. This, along with the curved sole that cuts through any type of grass, has been called "the limit of custom wedges." He is currently preparing a separate line, saying, "I want more people to experience it." We'll be keeping an eye on this master craftsman's future developments.
