Currently enrolled in medical school and scheduled to graduate in 2027 →???
It's like, "I can be a YouTuber."
Tamura Kae
I graduated from graduate school in March of last year and haven't found a job yet, but I still pay taxes, so I call myself a "working adult."
Veteran
You should definitely get a job.
Tamura
Over there!?

A Tokyo University graduate who becomes a YouTuber is a disgrace to Japan.
Tamura
I had absolutely no motivation for job hunting, and even in my first year of master's studies I couldn't move forward with anything. I even went to dinner parties with my seniors, but nothing seemed fun and I thought it was a hassle. By the time I realized that, it was too late, but YouTube is growing, so I thought it was okay. I like YouTube.
Veteran
I'm working towards graduating from medical school, but if I try to do some kind of business outside of YouTube before I graduate and it turns out to be a hit, I might do that, so I'm not sure yet.
Tamura
Is there a possibility that you'll quit YouTube?
Veteran
No, I don't think so. I might cut corners, but I'm not going to quit. I'm pretty much prepared to do that for the rest of my life.
Tamura
My parents have always instilled in me the idea of going to Tokyo University since I was old enough to understand, but after I enrolled, they took the stance that it was fine for me to pursue any profession. I don't know if that's true, but my parents seem to think that it would be fine for me to become a YouTuber. However, if there's a job on TV or something that would make my mother's generation happy, they make sure to tell me about it.

Moms say a lot of things, but in the end they're just trend-followers. They get excited when they appear on old media like Brutus or NHK, which I know sounds weird, but they're happy when they appear on old media.
Tamura
Before I entered, I was told to go to the University of Tokyo, and then after I got in, I was suddenly told I was free to do whatever I wanted in the future, so I was like, "Really?"
Veteran
I think Tokyo University students are suited to YouTube. If you like tracking numbers, it's a good job for you. Just think of it as a test.
Tamura
I think a fair percentage of people have a complex about their academic background. That's why I think YouTube videos of Tokyo University students are easy to watch. My dad still dreams about not being able to answer the Tokyo University entrance exam questions.
Veteran
At the University of Tokyo, the first two years are liberal arts, and they say you get to be exposed to a variety of academic fields and people, but I feel like that wasn't quite enough. I went there for nine years, so it might seem strange to say this, but it's actually better to have about nine years (laughs). You get to know who you are, find friends, etc.
Tamura
When I saw liberal arts students graduating from undergraduate school, I also thought that four years was not enough.
Veteran
I think that's why many people who graduate from university and get a job end up changing jobs or going independent.
Tamura
Well, it's always better to get into the University of Tokyo.
Veteran
If you put it in, then.
Tamura
I think it's the same no matter which university you go to, but it helps you get rid of one curse, like, "If I had gone to the University of Tokyo..."
Veteran
But when I actually got to Tokyo University, I realized there were absolutely no interesting people there. And it was just me speaking on behalf of the University. It was the worst (laughs).
