For those who love Japanese sweets
A simple yet delicious dish to enjoy chestnuts
Sakurai Kanseido's Chestnut Paste
Obuse Town in Nagano Prefecture has been widely known as a famous chestnut producing area since the Edo period. Sakurai Kanseido was founded here in 1808 (Bunka 5) and has a history of over 200 years. It is said that Obuse's chestnut sweets began with "Kurirakugan," which was created by the founder, Sakurai Ikuemon, by grinding chestnuts.
Their signature sweets include "Jun Kuri Yokan," made without azuki beans and only with chestnuts, sugar, and agar, and "Jun Kuri Kanoko," which is individually hand-packed in a tin, but "Kuri Paste" allows you to enjoy the chestnut flavor that only a specialty chestnut confectionery store can offer. It is a bottled version of the chestnut paste used in sweets such as "Kuri Monaka," and is made with the simplest of ingredients: just chestnuts and sugar.
They use only high-quality chestnuts selected from famous domestic production areas, including the local Obuse chestnuts. The key is to add sugar and mix quickly before the flavor is lost due to heat. The natural beige color is also proof that no bleach or preservatives are used.
The sticky, finely kneaded paste is overflowing with the rich flavor and aroma of chestnuts!
You can spread it on toast with butter, spread a little and make it into sweet red bean soup, or simply add it to ice cream or yogurt for a small dessert.
Because it has only the flavor of chestnuts and no added ingredients, it can be used in a variety of ways. It's a perfect gift for a chestnut-loving friend.
