『The Stories of John Cheever』
"It's so much fun," I lament, but...
This thick book contains 61 short stories by John Cheever. It's quite heavy. Because of its red cover, it's commonly known as "Red Cheever." I translated and published about 10 of these stories a few years ago, but the rest of his works are far more numerous.
I'd like to translate some more in the future, but for some reason Cheever's works aren't well received by Japanese readers, and to be honest, his books don't sell very well. I've always loved Cheever, and I often lament, "He's so interesting," but no matter how much I lament, the situation isn't improving. If you have the time, please pick up a copy and read it.
When Cheever lived in his New York apartment, he would put on his suit at the same time every morning, take the elevator, go into a special storage room in the basement, and write there. In the evening, he would take the elevator again to his room, where he would take off his suit and relax... He seems to have been quite an eccentric person.
