This is a book where you can encounter adventure stories and works that will overturn your common sense.
Listening to various people talk about their favorite adventures, I was reminded of the time when I was trail running and was moved by the view I saw from the top of a mountain after pushing my way through animal trails. It wasn't a particularly high mountain, but the joy of groping my way up an unfamiliar path and the exhilaration of suddenly seeing the view that had been blocked by trees cleared gave me a feeling of heat deep in my chest as my heart rate gradually calmed. Perhaps that was a part of the "unknown self" that I didn't yet know.
In this issue, we spoke to many adventurers to find out the answer to the question, "Why do people still yearn for adventure?" The adventure stories of pioneers who have ventured into the "unknown" - polar explorers, spear fishermen, mountain skiers, cave explorers, archaeologists, and more - are all fascinating and exciting.
And in Book in Book, 27 adventure lovers talk about "My Favorite Adventures"! They each introduced their favorite adventure films and books. Needless to say, the films they mentioned were all fascinating, but it was fascinating to hear how each person interpreted adventure in their own way, saying, "For me, adventure is ____." This stimulated my own desire to explore the unknown, or my adventurous spirit. I have actually purchased and started reading the selected books, but there are so many films I want to watch and read that I have a feeling I'll be staying indoors this summer (?).
The unknown is scary, but it's also exciting. For me, adventure is about discovering the unknown within yourself, and that's what I thought as I was proofreading. This summer, read this issue, experience a variety of works, and embark on an adventure to find your own answers.
