Choose from Western-style pastries made with local fruits and Taiwanese tea in the elegant "library"
In recent years, the number of Western-style pastry shops with elaborate designs has been increasing in Taiwan. One of the most talked about is Library Angte, which opened in March. The shop was established by a pastry shop in Taichung, with the aim of allowing customers to "find their favorite gift in a quiet space, just like choosing a book."
The store's concept is literally a "library." It offers a selection of Western-style sweets that make use of the characteristics of locally grown fruits and tea, and each one is unique in that it adds a twist to traditional sweets.
For example, pineapple cake, a typical Taiwanese souvenir, is made by kneading Guifei oolong tea or Hongyu black tea into the batter, and adding candied mandarin oranges and lemon peel to the filling.
The eye-catching langue de chat cookies, shaped like an open book, are popular and combine the light-flavored Khao San Oolong tea with the highly fermented Dong Fan Beauty tea and lychee. The nut-filled fruit candy also combines Four Seasons Spring tea with three types of mango for a soft texture. They also sell a variety of Taiwanese tea leaves that go well with Western sweets.
You can also take the order slip home as a souvenir. 
The pineapple cake (left, 6 pieces from 310 TWD) has a soft texture and doesn't spill out. The fruit candy (middle) comes in a pack of 16 pieces of 3 different varieties for 290 TWD. The langue de chat (right) comes in a pack of 12 pieces for 350 TWD.

The interior design was handled by Honji Kukan Seisakusho, a company that has worked on numerous properties. Bookshelves are placed inside the store, and fluorescent lights are placed above the reading desks in the tasting area at the back. Playful touches like order forms that resemble library cards are added throughout, creating an atmosphere reminiscent of a reading room.
The elegant product packaging was created by the cutting-edge design team, Liangshi Laohu Design Studio. The style of the concept shop, which promotes local specialties, can be said to be an evolved form of souvenir confectionery shops.
