From everyday motifs to the world of imagination
Chen Chuqiao's "Left Gate of Preface, Right Gate of Preface"
This work, consisting of a pair of paintings on the left and right, is by Chan Chu-chiu, an artist originally from Hong Kong and currently based in Tokyo. Her motifs are everyday objects and simple scenes. However, through her gaze, the objects and scenes depicted become abstract and expand into a world of imagination.
What is most distinctive about the paintings are their beautiful colors and the natural feel they evoke on their surfaces. This is achieved by using natural mineral pigments on washi paper. The paintings exude a nostalgic atmosphere, and gazing at them will shake your sense of time.
