Small art that can be touched and enjoyed like pottery
Obana Tomohisa's "Pile"
Should he consider his pottery as practical or sublime objects? In the world of pottery, practical works such as vessels and glasses are often created, but Obana Tomohisa is always searching for art that is not bound by preconceived notions, asking himself, "How can I update traditional craftsmanship while preserving their techniques?"
I believe his work has a cross-genre appeal that is relevant even in today's world of diversifying culture and media. His newly unveiled work, "Tsumi," is made by stacking multiple glazed ceramic tiles, just as you can see. It is an art form that can be touched in the same way as admiring ceramics, so it should feel even more familiar.
