Gallery SCAI THE BATHHOUSE recommends this artwork: Apichatpong Weerasethakul's "Box of Time: BOX V, Two Minutes"

We asked art galleries and shops in Tokyo, "If you were to buy art now, what kind of art would you buy?" Paintings, sculptures, photographs. All of them are small pieces of art that can be displayed in a room. This includes future star artists who are on the verge of breaking out!

Apichatpong Weerasethakul's Box of Time: Box V, Two Minutes

This is one of the "Boxes of Time" works created for Apichatpong Weerasethakul's solo exhibition, which runs until May 2024. There are five boxes in the exhibition room, each containing 52 photographs taken over a condensed period of time ranging from two minutes to one year.

The work we are introducing here is composed of still photographs from footage shot on Super 8 film. Set in an abandoned room in the Chiang Rai Forest Reserve in northern Thailand, it captures a beautiful, lyrical two-minute sequence in which Tilda Swinton, an actress who frequently appears in his films, improvises and expresses the changing emotions of others in sync with the moving shadows.
