Maizuru (Maizuru Port Toretore Center)
Having grown up in Uji, Maizuru was an unexplored area for me. I heard there was a roadside station where you could enjoy fresh grilled seafood, so I went there with my cousin. The market inside was filled with seafood caught at the port. We enjoyed grilled crab and grilled scallops that we selected on the spot, along with draft beer. We finished off the day with a seafood bowl!
Atami "Yui"
Located at the very back of the underground mall in a multi-tenant building in front of the station, this restaurant is like a hidden gem to me. It's a set meal restaurant run by a warm-hearted mother and daughter, and I've been there many times since I first encountered it on location. Their fried horse mackerel set meal is delicious, with large pieces and a delicate flavor. The crispy, fluffy texture goes perfectly with draft beer.
Kujukuri (Isaribi Shokudo)
I like drinking with seafood. In my early twenties, I would come here after a photo shoot and enjoy grilled clams from Chiba. They grill them at the table, so the restaurant is filled with a wonderful aroma. I was happy to spend time sipping beer while chatting with the staff who were with me on the shoot.
