A set routine can help with an irregular lifestyle

Musician PORIN, who says "Sleep is the most important thing in life," developed good sleep habits during the COVID-19 pandemic.

"I went through a period where I couldn't sleep because I wasn't tired, so I started looking for tips on how to get better sleep. There are two habits in particular that I've found to be effective. One is to get plenty of sunlight after waking up in the morning. This causes the hormone melatonin to be secreted at night, which makes you feel sleepy.

Another thing to do is to take a good bath before going to bed and warm your body from the inside out. Sweating on your face and a slight blush on your cheeks are signs that you're warm. Even if you don't have time to soak in the bath for too long, massaging the lymph nodes in your arms and armpits is a great way to warm up your body all at once.

On days when you can't sleep, instead of forcing yourself to sleep, put your smartphone down and enjoy the evening by playing board games, etc. That's PORIN's way of dealing with sleep, but the usual habits are useful the night before when you have early morning plans.

"Because of my job as a musician, my life tends to be irregular depending on the time of year, such as when I'm creating music and when I'm promoting it after its release. But even in those days, I've found that having a set routine helps me sleep well. I like alcohol, and there are irregular days when I drink until the morning, but I'm glad that if I can sleep well on a regular basis, the damage doesn't accumulate (laughs)."
