Love and caring for each other
This is the story of a lonely grandfather named Ove, who has closed his heart since his beloved wife died six months ago, but gradually opens up as he reluctantly responds to the bold requests of new people who have moved into the neighborhood.
This film depicts the development of love in diverse relationships through "care." My grandfather was still alive when I first saw this film, so I felt a strong desire to simply spend more time with him, and I remember calling him immediately. Ove and my grandfather's personalities were very similar.
My grandfather passed away a while ago. I realized for the first time what it feels like to deify a loved one who has passed away, and I really understood how Ove felt after losing his wife. Watching the film again now, I realized that love can be born not only among family members, but also among neighbors, friends, and people we meet for the first time, through the act of "caring" for one another.
I'm a cynical person who feels like my will and freedom are being taken away when others look after me, and I feel so miserable that I want to disappear from the situation. However, when I saw his neighbors gradually closing the distance between them and the lonely Ove, by asking him for many favors and thanking him by cooking delicious meals for him in Tupperware, I began to think that maybe it was okay for me to rely more on others in life. By doing so, I might be able to save someone else from loneliness.
My favorite scene is when Ove gives his iPad to his neighbor's kid.
