Love Movie Opinion Poll: Doctors Who Face Life

date: October 7, 2023 (Sat) 4:00 PM

Love is something doctors face all the time.

S

"Amour," which depicts elderly care for the elderly, is a film about love with many realistic depictions that even a doctor would find appealing.

M

"One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest," set in a psychiatric hospital, is also very realistic. It depicts an era when there was no clear evidence of mental illness. "The Wind Rises" also depicts the love between a husband and wife, and it really got me thinking.

T

What kind of things?

M

The protagonist's wife dies of tuberculosis. During and immediately after the war, many people died from war and disease, so I think death was a much more immediate experience.

S

When you're in a hospital, you witness the moment a life ends and you see many different types of families, so you have more opportunities to think about ethics and the way you and your family live your lives.

Y

I think "Gattaca" is a very interesting film in that respect. In the near future, where genetic manipulation is commonplace, the direction of one's life is determined entirely by the superiority or inferiority of one's genes.

M

When you become a doctor, you often think about human rights and happiness.

S

Is being loved by family the happiest thing?

M

Yes. But in reality, even when babies are separated from their mothers in the NICU (neonatal intensive care unit) after birth, there are cases where they grow faster if medical staff actively keep in contact with them. "ALWAYS Sunset on Third Street" is a story about neighbors helping to raise an elementary school-aged child who is not their own. The doctor who appears in the film has lost his family. The depiction of him giving and receiving love through his work while dealing with loneliness is also very good.

S

There may be a surprising number of movies that can be learned from a doctor's perspective. There are even people who became doctors after watching the "Code Blue" series, which has many scenes that make you want to ask questions (laughs).

T

I like to clear my mind when I'm not working, so when it comes to love movies, movies like "Stuart Little" come to mind.

K

Many doctors don't have any particular preferences, so the viewing rate of popular films like "Your Name" may be high. Everyone here has seen it!

Pediatrician M, Rheumatologist Y, Gastroenterologist T, Gastroenterologist S, Cardiologist K
From the left, Mr. K, a cardiologist, Mr. S, a gastroenterologist, Mr. T, a gastroenterologist, Mr. Y, a connective tissue disease specialist, and Mr. M, a pediatrician. These five were colleagues during the two-year initial training program that is undertaken after graduating from university or graduate school to ensure that students acquire the basic knowledge and techniques required of a doctor. They managed to find time between their busy work schedules, day and night, to answer our interview questions.
